A Prayer for the Swift Return of Lama Zopa Rinpoche

༄༅། །ཟླ་མེད་སྟོན་པ་རྒྱལ་སྲས་ཉན་རང་ཚོགས། །

བྟོ་བཟང་རྒྱལ་བ་ཡབ་སྲས་བརྒྱུད་པར་བཅས། །

རབ་འབྱམས་ཞིང་གི་སྐྱབས་ཡུལ་མ་ལུས་པས། །

དེང་འདིར་སྟོན་པ་འགྲུབ་པའི་དགེ་ལེགས་སྟོལ། །

Da me tön pa gyäl sä nyän rang tshog

lo zang gyäl wa yab sä gyü par chä

rab jam zhing gi kyab yül ma lü pä

Deng Dir mön pa Drub päi ge leg tsöl

Peerless Teacher and assembly of the children of the victorious ones, śrāvakas, and pratyekabuddhas;

Victorious Lozang, father and sons, along with the lineage masters;

All the objects of refuge of infinite lands—

Please bestow the virtue and goodness of accomplishing this prayer here and now.

ཡྟོངས་སུ་རྟོགས་པའི་ཐུབ་བསན་རིན་པྟོ་ཆེ། །

བཤད་དང་སྒྲུབ་པས་འཛིན་ཅིང་སེལ་བ་ལ། །

ནམ་ཡང་མི་ཞུམ་བཟྟོད་པའི་གྟོ་ཆ་ཅན། །

མཚུངས་མེད་རེ་བཙུན་བ་མར་གསྟོལ་བ་འདེབས། །

yong su Dzog päi thub tän rin po chhe

shä Dang Drub pä Dzin ching pel wa la

nam yang mi zhum zö päi go chha chän

tsung me je tsün la mar söl wa Deb

Holding and spreading the Muni’s ( thub) precious and complete teachings ( ten)

Through explanation and practice,

You wore the armor of patience ( zopa) that is never discouraged—

Incomparable venerable guru, to you I make request.

ཕན་བདེ་མ་ལུས་འབྱུང་བའི་སྟོ་གཅིག་པུ། །

རྒྱལ་བའི་བསན་དང་མ་གྱུར་འགྟོ་བ་ཡི། །

དྟོན་ལ་གཅིག་ཏུ་བརྟོན་པ་མཛད་པའི་མུར། །

གྟོ་བུར་ཞི་བར་གཤེགས་འདིར་ཡིད་རེ་ཕངས། །

phän De ma lü jung wäi go chig pu

gyäl wäi tän Dang ma gyur Dro wa yi

Dön la chig tu tsön pa Dzä päi mur

lo bur zhi war sheg Dir yi re phang

While striving single-pointedly for the sake of the Victorious One’s teachings,

The sole gateway through which all benefit and happiness emerge, And for mother living beings,

You suddenly departed to peace—what a great loss!

འྟོན་ཏང་མཆྟོག་གསུམ་རྒྱ་མཚོའི་བྱིན་རླབས་དང་། །

རྒྱལ་སྲས་རྣམས་ཀི་ཐུགས་བསྐྱེད་རླབས་པྟོ་ཆེ། །

བསླུ་མེད་བདེན་པས་ཡང་སྤྲུལ་གསར་པའི་འཛུམ། །

སྐལ་བཟང་གདུལ་བྱའི་དཔལ་དུ་མྱུར་བཞད་ཤྟོག །

ön tang chhog sum gya tshöi jin lab Dang

gyäl sä nam kyi thug kye lab po chhe

lu me Den pä yang trül sar päi Dzum

käl zang Dül jäi päl Du nyur zhä shog

Nevertheless, through the undeceiving truth Of the blessings of the ocean of the Three Jewels And the great waves of bodhicitta of the children of the victorious ones,

May the smile of a reincarnation swiftly beam in glory for fortunate disciples!

ཅེས་པ་འདི་ནི་བསན་པའི་གསལ་བྱེད་མཚུངས་མེད་བཟྟོད་པ་རིན་པྟོ་ཆེ་གྟོ་བུར་ཞི་བར་གཤེགས་

དགྟོན་མཁའ་སྤྟོད་དགའ་འཁིལ་གིང་།

དེ་བཞིན་ཞིང་གཤེགས་རིན་པྟོ་ཆེའི་སྟོབ་མ་ཡྟོངས་ནས་

བསྐུལ་བའི་རྐེན་དང་།

རིན་པྟོ་ཆེ་འཚོ་བཞུགས་རིང་ཉིད་ཀི་ལས་དྟོན་ཆེ་ཕྲ་རྣམས་ངྟོས་ལ་འདི་

བཞིན་བྱས་པ་སྟོགས་འབེལ་བ་ཐུན་མིན་ལ་སྟོང་མྱུར་བྱྟོན་སྟོན་ཚིག་འདི་སྦྱར་ཞིང་། བཟྟོད་པ་རིན་

པྟོ་ཆེ་འདི་ལྟར་གཤེགས་པར་ཕངས་ཀང་གཙོ་བྟོར་ཁྟོང་སྐུ་འཚོ་བཞུགས་སྐབས་བྱང་ཆུབ་ཀི་སེམས་

རིན་པྟོ་ཆེ་ཉམས་ལེན་གི་མཐིལ་དུ་མཛད་པས་རེས་འཇུག་བཤུལ་ལུས་རྣམས་ནས་ཀང་བ་མའི་

རྣམ་ཐར་དེ་ཉིད་ལ་ཚུལ་བཞིན་དུ་སྟོབ་ན་རིན་པྟོ་ཆེའི་དགྟོངས་པ་དེ་གས་རྟོགས་པར་ངེས་པས་དེ་

དྟོན་ཡིད་འཇྟོག་ཡྟོང་བ་དང་། འདི་ནས་ཀང་མཆྟོག་གསུམ་ལ་གསྟོལ་འདེབས་དང་བསྟོ་སྟོན་ནན་

འདྟོངས་བྱེད། ཤཱཀའི་དགེ་སྦྱྟོང་ཆྟོས་སྨྲ་བ། ཏཱ་ལའི་བ་མས། བྟོད་རབ་བྱུང་བཅུ་བདུན་པའི་ཆུ་ཡྟོས་

ཟླ་ ༢ ཚེས་ ༢༥ ཕི་ལྟོ་ ༢༠༢༣ ཟླ་ ༤ ཚེས་ ༡༥ ཉིན་སྦྱར་བ་དགེ །

I composed this swift return prayer at the request of the centres of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition in general, Kopan Ogmin Jangchub Choling, Khachoe Gakhyil Ling Nunnery, and all the students of the late Rinpoche, headed by Roger Kunsang, who said that since the elucidator of the Buddha’s teachings, the incomparable Zopa Rinpoche, had suddenly departed to peace, a swift return prayer was needed. I also composed it because of our special connection, exem-plified, for instance, by the fact that when Rinpoche was with us, he would consult me on his projects, big or smal .

While it is devastating that Zopa Rinpoche has departed in this way, the most important thing is that when he was with us, he made the precious mind of enlightenment the foundation of his practice, and so, if his followers who have been left behind properly emulate the Guru’s life, it is exactly that which will definitely fulfill Rinpoche’s wishes. Therefore, keep this in mind, and from now on also make requests to the Three Jewels and earnest dedication prayers.
