summer

Summer is one of the four seasons, coming after Spring and before Autumn or Fall. This season occurs between the June solstice and the September equinox in the northern hemisphere, while it occurs between the December solstice and the March equinox in the southern hemisphere.

Temperatures are at their highest during summer, making this season the hottest of the year. It is a time to swim in swimming pools or go to the beach in warmer areas. Along the USA's Gulf Coast, hurricanes occurs when they roll in from the Atlantic Ocean and the African coast. The hottest days of summer are referred to as “the dog days of summer”.

Snippet from Wikipedia: Summer

Summer is the hottest and brightest of the four temperate seasons, occurring after spring and before autumn. At or centred on the summer solstice, daylight hours are the longest and darkness hours are the shortest, with day length decreasing as the season progresses after the solstice. The earliest sunrises and latest sunsets also occur near the date of the solstice. The date of the beginning of summer varies according to climate, tradition, and culture. When it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and vice versa.
