Spatial Data
Return to Types of Data, Data Types, Data Structures
Spatial data refers to any data that is associated with a specific location or geographic area on the Earth's surface. This type of data typically includes information about the coordinates (latitude and longitude), extent, and attributes of geographic features such as points, lines, polygons, and raster grids. Spatial data is commonly used in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other applications to represent and analyze real-world phenomena that have a spatial component. Examples of spatial data include GPS coordinates, land parcel boundaries, road networks, population densities, terrain elevation models, and satellite imagery. Analyzing spatial data involves techniques such as spatial querying, spatial analysis, interpolation, and geostatistics to derive meaningful insights and make informed decisions about spatial relationships and patterns.
