Return to On-premises software

On-prem” is another way of stating “on the premises of a controlled IT environment that is not cloud-based.” This term is used to qualify an IT resource as an alternative to “cloud-based.” An IT resource that is on-premise cannot be cloud-based, and vice-versa.

Snippet from Wikipedia: On-premises software

On-premises software (abbreviated to on-prem, and often misspelled as "on-premise"; see below) is installed and runs on computers on the premises of the person or organization using the software, rather than at a remote facility such as a server farm or cloud. On-premises software is sometimes referred to as "shrinkwrap" software, and off-premises software is commonly called "software as a service" ("SaaS") or "cloud computing".

While premises is Latin singular (the "s" does not denote plurality), throughout the tech industry "on-premises" is often misspelled as "on premise" or "on-premise". A premise refers to a presupposition or argument, not a location, and has nothing to do with the word "premises."

The software consists of database and modules that are combined to particularly serve the unique needs of the large organizations regarding the automation of corporate-wide business system and its functions.
