HFS

See Hierarchical File System Plus, is a file system developed by Apple Inc. It is the successor to the original Hierarchical File System (HFS) and is commonly used on Apple's macOS operating system. HFS+ was introduced in 1998 and brought several improvements over its predecessor, including support for larger file sizes, better metadata handling, and improved performance. HFS+ supports features such as file compression, journaling for improved data integrity, and support for extended file attributes. Despite its long history, HFS+ has limitations in terms of scalability and support for modern storage technologies. It has largely been superseded by the newer Apple File System (APFS), introduced in macOS High Sierra in 2017, which offers improved performance, security, and compatibility with solid-state drives (SSDs) and other modern storage devices.
