Snippet from Wikipedia: Favicon

A favicon (; short for favorite icon), also known as a shortcut icon, website icon, tab icon, URL icon, or bookmark icon, is a file containing one or more small icons associated with a particular website or web page. A web designer can create such an icon and upload it to a website (or web page) by several means, and graphical web browsers will then make use of it. Browsers that provide favicon support typically display a page's favicon in the browser's address bar (sometimes in the history as well) and next to the page's name in a list of bookmarks. Browsers that support a tabbed document interface typically show a page's favicon next to the page's title on the tab, and site-specific browsers use the favicon as a desktop icon.

To easily get any favicon for a website, you can use Google Favicon Snatcher, and how this works is by passing the domain name you want to get the favicon from to the link below:

https://www.google.com/s2/favicons?domain=THE_DOMAIN_NAME_HERE

Do note that the image size is small because it's a favicon.

Favicon is a small image that you can see in the browser tabs, bookmarks, and search engine results. The ideal size of a favicon is 16×16 pixels. Some may use larger dimensions, 32×32 and 48×48 pixels, to suit the retina screens. Favicons can be saved in either .ico or .png file format. Today, browsers support favicons even in .gif and .jpeg formats. Favicons are necessary as they are useful in many ways. If you are impressed with some random website faction, you can download the favicon from the website and use it on your website with some modifications.

You can get favicons from any website in three different ways.

  • From the root directory of a site
  • From outside the root directory of a site
  • Using Google S2
