Cascading Failure
A cascading failure is a process in which a failure in a part of a system triggers a sequence of failures in interconnected components, leading to the breakdown of an entire system. This phenomenon is observed in a variety of systems, including electrical power grids, computer networks, and financial systems. The initial failure can be minor, but its effects are amplified as it propagates through the system, causing widespread service disruption. To mitigate the risk of cascading failures, systems are designed with redundancies, fault tolerance, and robust monitoring mechanisms. However, the complex interdependencies in modern IT infrastructures and networks can still make systems vulnerable to these catastrophic chain reactions.
